Svarta in Bardardalur is located in the northern highlands of Iceland, 100 km from Akureyri.
This river is sometimes referred to by locals as the little Laxa in Myvatnssveit. Although quite smaller than the famous Laxa it has some resemblance with its great variety of pools and fishing situations that challenge even the most experienced angler.
This is catch and release river with average size trout of 2 – 5 pounds with several bigger once landed every year. Dry fly fishing works really well here but nymphs and streamers are also effective.
The fishing cabin is basic, but well functional. There are three bedrooms, bathroom with shower and a common area. There we make our own food in a fully equipped kitchen.
This river is probably still one of Iceland ́s best kept trout fishing secrets.
Brunna in Oxarfjordur is located in the north east of Iceland, about 160 km from Svarta.
This is a beautiful river with crystal clear pools holding mainly good size arctic char but also some local trout and sea trout. This is catch and release river with average size char of 2 – 6 pounds.
Nymph fishing works really well here but dry flies and streamers can also be effective.
The lodge is very comfortable and has two bedrooms and a sleeping loft, bathroom with shower and a spacious common area. There we make our own food in a fully equipped kitchen.
