Two of our favorite rivers in North Iceland in 6 days! 2 days on the Laxa and 4 days on Svarta in Bardardalur. This is exclusive fishing with a maximum of 3 rods – ideal for a small group of friends.
Laxa
Laxa in Adaldalur offers some of the best wild brown trout fishing to be found in Iceland.
The trout beats on Laxa are divided between three sections of the river. The upper part is called Laxa Myvatnssveit, the middle part is Laxa Laxardalur and the lower part, the one below the dam, is Laxa Torfur.
Although not as well known by visiting anglers this section of the river, Laxa Torfur, also offers superb trout fishing.
Dry fly fishing works really well here but nymphs and streamers are also effective.
The lodge is a nice house with private bedrooms, shared facilities and a fully equipped kitchen, where we make our own meals.
Svarta in Bardardalur
This river is sometimes referred to by locals as the little Laxa in Myvatnssveit. Although quite smaller than the famous Laxa it has some resemblance with its great variety of pools and fishing situations that challenge even the most experienced angler.
This is catch and release river with average size trout of 3 – 5 pounds with several bigger once landed every year. Dry fly fishing works really well here but nymphs and streamers are also effective.
The fishing cabin is basic, but well functional. There are three bedrooms, bathroom with shower and a common area. Here we also prepare our own meals in a fully equipped kitchen.
This river is probably still one of Iceland ́s best kept trout fishing secrets.
